The Making of an Aquamarine Solitaire Ring in Yellow Gold | Luxury Handmade Jewelry

Not every piece of jewelry requires a complex design.

Some pieces need nothing more than the right light, the right proportions, and a setting that allows the beauty of the gemstone to speak for itself.

That was exactly the case with this project.

At Marchioness Jewelry Boutique, we created a yellow gold solitaire ring featuring a large natural round-cut aquamarine — a piece built around clean lines, balanced proportions, and the beauty of a single gemstone.

Everything Begins with Gold

The process begins with melting the gold and preparing the metal for the future ring.

The two primary components of the ring are then created separately: the shank and the setting designed to hold the center aquamarine.

At this stage, precision, symmetry, and proper geometry are essential. These details determine not only the appearance of the finished piece but also the quality of the gemstone setting that follows.

The Structure You Never See

Once the individual components are completed, the jeweler carefully fits and positions them.

The setting is aligned to the shank with maximum precision before the components are joined through traditional soldering, creating a strong and durable foundation for the finished ring.

Most people will never see this part of the work.

Yet it is precisely these hidden details that determine the quality of a piece years later.

Why Polishing Is Done Before Stone Setting

Before the aquamarine is installed, every surface of the ring is meticulously refined and polished.

This is one of the hallmarks of high-end jewelry craftsmanship.

Once the gemstone has been set, certain internal areas become difficult to access for further finishing. For this reason, all surfaces must be brought to their final condition before the setting process begins.

This approach allows a level of finishing that cannot be achieved through simplified production methods.

Setting the Aquamarine

Once the preparation is complete, the central aquamarine is carefully set into its mounting.

The jeweler then performs the final refinements and inspects every detail of the piece before it is completed.

In a design such as this, all attention is focused on a single gemstone. Every line, every angle, and every proportion must work together to enhance its beauty.

Final Finishing

After the gemstone has been set, the ring undergoes final polishing, professional cleaning, and quality control.

Only then does the finished piece emerge — elegant, timeless, and created to highlight the natural beauty of the aquamarine.

True craftsmanship is not always about adding more details.

Sometimes it is about knowing when nothing more should be added.

This philosophy lies at the heart of every project created at Marchioness Jewelry Boutique — an independent jewelry atelier in Toronto, where traditional hand craftsmanship is combined with modern technologies and uncompromising attention to detail.
